On helping Haiti

Since the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday, a lot of information has been given on how to help the people in need. This post is just an update for Canadian readers.

First, people from Canada can now text to give to Haiti. You can do so by texting Haiti to 45678. The text message donations will go to the Salvation Army's relief efforts in Haiti. When proceeding, text Donors will then get a text message asking for confirmation of the text donation, reply with YES.
By texting Haiti to 45678, a $5 text message micro-donation will be made to The Salvation Army.

For US residents: Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross and Text HAITI to 25383 to donate $5 to International Rescue Committee

You can also make a small, medium or large donation to these organizations :

The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. Donations can be earmarked to the Haiti Earthquake fund. Canadians who wish to give may donate online, by calling toll-free 1-800-418-1111 or by visiting any Red Cross office.

You can donate online to help the Unicef task force in haiti or send a check to this adress:

UNICEF Canada

2200 Yonge St., Suite 1100
Toronto, Ontario
M4S 2C6

Also check out some additional info from other bloggers:

Finally,I also recommend that you make sure that your donation goes to legit organizations. To avoid fraud schemes, you should do some research on the organization you wish to consider and how your money will contribute to help Haiti.
And for the most devoted Samaritans who wish to join the different task forces sent to Haiti: unless you are a trained volunteer with some experience in disaster relief, for now you just can't.

Quote of the Day

"It is our routines and our comforts that allow us to ignore social issues. For some of us, it is our privilege to be ignorant.

Social injustice cannot be ignored when you are forced to deal with them.

What would happen if you were forced to deal with something that you may think has nothing to do with you? If suddenly the world's problems came into your own home?
